In the summer of 2015, archaeologists uncovered the remains of a previously unrecorded ringfort in the townland of Ranelagh just north of Roscommon Town. We knew there were burials, but we didn’t expect the extent of what we found.”The cemetery contained 557 intact burials and another potential 108. Among the burials were several interesting finds, including someone who quite possibly came from the north of England. “So the Ranelagh site was always on a route way,” he said.
